Chargers are the easiest thing on Amazon to buy badly. They all look the same in a thumbnail, the specifications are written to confuse, and the price range for what appears to be the same object runs from four dollars to forty. Here is what actually separates them.

Watts matter more than ports

A four-port charger that delivers 12W total is worse than a single-port charger that delivers 30W, and the four-port one will be advertised more aggressively. Check the total output, then check whether that output is shared or per-port. A “65W 4-port” charger usually means 65W split between them, dropping to perhaps 18W each when all four are in use.

GaN is worth the few extra dollars

Gallium nitride chargers run cooler and are substantially smaller for the same output. At the same wattage a GaN charger will often be half the size of an older silicon one. Under $25 you can get 30W to 45W GaN from a reputable seller, which is enough to fast-charge a phone and trickle a tablet at the same time.

USB-C Power Delivery, not just USB-C

A USB-C port is a shape, not a promise. What you want stated is Power Delivery (PD) or Programmable Power Supply (PPS). Without them the port will charge slowly regardless of the number printed on the box. If a listing mentions the port type but never mentions PD, assume it does not have it.

Skip the ones with no review history

This applies to everything electrical. A charger is a device you leave plugged in overnight next to your bed; a brand with forty reviews and a 60% discount is not where to save six dollars. Common questions

Are cheap USB chargers safe?

The risk is real but it is about certification, not price. Look for a UL, ETL or CE mark and a named brand with a review history. A $12 charger from a company that has sold a million of them is safer than a $30 one from a brand that appeared last month.

How many watts do I get under $25?

Comfortably 20W to 30W, which fast-charges any phone, and increasingly 45W to 65W now that GaN has pushed prices down. What you do not get under $25 is a reliable 100W multi-port charger.

Is a cheap charger slower than the official one?

Not if the wattage and the standard match. A 20W USB-C charger with Power Delivery charges an iPhone at exactly the same rate as Apple's own 20W adapter, because the phone requests the rate and the charger supplies it.

Do I need to buy a cable as well?

Usually yes, as most wall chargers under $25 ship without one. Below 60W any USB-C cable works. Above 60W you need an e-marked cable, and a cheap one will silently cap the charger.

Why is the same charger $9 on one listing and $25 on another?

Almost always a different variant sharing one listing: a lower wattage, a single port instead of three, or a one-pack rather than a two-pack. Check that the price you are seeing belongs to the configuration you selected.

One thing worth ignoring

The discount percentage. On accessories like this the original price is the least reliable number in the listing, and a charger “reduced” from $79.99 to $19.99 was almost certainly always a twenty dollar charger.
