The descaling method is the same on every Keurig. What changes is how you start the cycle, how much solution goes in, and how many rinses it takes afterwards. Those three things are below, per model, from Keurig’s own Use and Care guides.
If you want the method itself rather than the sequence, it is in how to descale a Keurig. This page is the lookup table.
Every model at a glance
| Brewer | Starting the cycle | Solution | Keurig’s time |
|---|---|---|---|
| K-Mini, K-Mini Plus | No descale mode: brew with no pod | One-third of the bottle, water to 10 oz | About 45 min |
| K-Slim | Powered off, hold 8oz + 12oz for 3 seconds | Whole bottle, then a bottle of water | 15 to 20 min |
| K-Express | Powered off, hold 8oz + 12oz, then press 12oz | Whole bottle, or a pouch plus 24 oz water | 15 to 20 min |
| K-Supreme | Powered off, hold 8oz + 12oz for 3 seconds | Whole bottle, then a bottle of water | 15 to 20 min |
| K-Supreme Plus | On screen: left arrow, then CONTINUE | Choose the 2 oz pouch or 14 oz bottle | 15 to 20 min |
| K-Duo, K-Duo Essentials | Follow the flashing BREW button | Whole bottle, then a bottle of water | About 20 min |
| K-Elite, K-Classic and other reservoirs | No descale mode: rinsing brews at the largest size | Whole bottle, then a bottle of water | About 45 min |
Two rules apply to all of them: no K-Cup pod in the holder at any point, and take the water filter out of the reservoir before you start.
K-Mini and K-Mini Plus
The odd one out, because the reservoir holds one cup rather than a tank. The K-Mini guide has you pour one-third of the bottle, which it puts at 4.6 oz, then top up with fresh water to the 10 oz line and brew with no pod.
The second pass is where people go wrong: repeat it, but press POWER as the brewer starts to dispense, which traps the solution in the tank. Let it stand at least 30 minutes, then hold the BREW button until all the solution has come out. Finish with three 12 oz fresh-water rinses, and more if you can still taste it. Allow about 45 minutes in total.
K-Slim, K-Express and K-Supreme
These share a descale mode and the same way into it: with the brewer plugged in and powered off, hold the 8oz and 12oz buttons together for 3 seconds. On a K-Slim the descale light goes solid; on a K-Express you then press 12oz to start, and on a K-Supreme the brew button.
All three take the whole bottle plus a bottle of water, and run until the add-water light shows. The K-Supreme guide then has you rinse with fresh water until the descale notification turns off, which is the brewer deciding you are finished rather than you clearing the light by hand.
The K-Express also accepts a descale pouch instead of a bottle: its guide says to pour the pouch plus 24 oz of water into the tank.
K-Supreme Plus and other screen models
No button combination to memorize. When the descale notification appears, press the left arrow and choose CONTINUE, then tell it whether you are using the 2 oz pouch or the 14 oz bottle and follow the prompts. To descale early, press both arrows together for Settings and pick Descale Mode. The guide is also the one that states the filter rule outright: remove the water filter from the reservoir if your brewer has one.
K-Duo and K-Duo Essentials
The flashing BREW button leads you through: a single-serve cleansing brew, then a second, then a carafe brew that empties the reservoir. Repeat with fresh water for the rinse. The carafe cycle is what makes this one quicker than a K-Elite, at about 20 minutes, because it moves the whole tank in one go.
K-Elite, K-Classic and the other reservoir brewers
No mode, no combination. Fill the reservoir with solution and water, put a large mug on the tray, and run rinsing brews at the largest size with no pod until the add-water light comes on. Then, per the K-Elite guide, let it stand 30 minutes while still on, and finish with at least 12 rinsing brews at the largest size. That is the longest procedure of any model here, about 45 minutes, and the 12 rinses are not padding: the solution tastes of itself for a long time.
If your model is not listed
The pattern holds: solution in an empty reservoir, brews with no pod until it empties, a stand, then fresh-water rinses until the taste is gone. Only the button combination is model-specific, and it is printed in the guide that came with the brewer, which Keurig also hosts as a PDF. Where a brewer has a descale light, finishing the rinses is what clears it.

Common questions
What buttons do you press to descale a Keurig?
On a K-Slim, K-Express or K-Supreme: with the brewer plugged in and powered off, hold the 8oz and 12oz buttons together for 3 seconds. A K-Supreme Plus uses its screen. A K-Mini, K-Elite or K-Classic has no descale mode at all, so you just run brews with no pod.
How do you descale a Keurig K-Mini?
Differently from the rest: one-third of the bottle (4.6 oz) plus fresh water to the 10 oz line, brewed with no pod. Then repeat, pressing POWER as it starts to dispense, let it stand 30 minutes, and hold BREW to finish. Three 12 oz fresh-water rinses after that. Allow about 45 minutes.
Why does my Keurig have no descale button?
Not every model has one. The K-Mini, K-Elite and the classic reservoir brewers have no descale mode, and the procedure is simply rinsing brews with no pod until the reservoir empties. The light, where there is one, clears when the cycle is finished.
How much descaling solution does each model use?
Most take the entire bottle plus a bottle of water. The K-Mini takes one-third of the bottle with water to the 10 oz line. On the K-Express and K-Supreme Plus you can use a pouch instead: the K-Express guide says the pouch plus 24 oz of water.
How do you turn the descale light off?
By completing the cycle, including the fresh-water rinses. On a K-Supreme the guide has you rinse until the descale notification turns off, which is the brewer confirming rather than you resetting it.
Do you remove the water filter for every model?
Yes, where the brewer takes one. The K-Supreme Plus guide says it outright, and the others say to set the filter aside before you start. Put it back after the rinsing.
The method is in how to descale a Keurig, the interval in how often to descale a Keurig, the vinegar question in can you descale a Keurig with vinegar, and the filter that comes out first in the Keurig water filter guide.
