Frigidaire PureSource Ultra II water filter

Oohunt Deal Desk · Last checked 2026-11-02

The PureSource Ultra II, and the newer of Frigidaire's two in-compartment water cartridges. The II is not decoration: this is a separate part from the ULTRAWF, with its own install guide.

These are not interchangeable. Match the number on the cartridge you are replacing.

The mistake this page exists to prevent

Ultra and Ultra II read like one generation apart, so people reasonably assume the newer one drops into the older slot. Frigidaire documents them separately and tells owners to order the type already fitted, which is as close to a direct answer as its published material gets.

If the old cartridge is gone and the manual with it, the model number on the sticker inside the fresh food compartment is what Frigidaire's own lookup tool wants.

When to change it

Six months, on Frigidaire's wording, with the Water Filter Status light prompting on most models. The same article notes that a fridge left unused, during a move for instance, should get a fresh filter before it is reinstalled.

Fit it, then flush it

Air gets trapped in the line when a new cartridge goes in. Frigidaire says this can result in two or three empty ice maker cycles, and that if the system is not flushed the first ice cubes may be discolored or have an odd flavor.

Its procedure is to hold a glass against the dispenser paddle until water comes through, which it says may take about one to two minutes, keep dispensing for several minutes to flush the plumbing, then discard that water and repeat a few more times.

So cloudy or odd-tasting water straight after a change is expected rather than a sign of a bad cartridge. Flush it properly before concluding anything.

What we can source

Every row names who says it. Anything the manufacturer does not publish is not listed, which is why this is shorter than a retailer’s.

What Frigidaire says about third-party filters

The manufacturer marketing its own part, not an independent test. Reported, not endorsed.

“Frigidaire Genuine filters offer 3 levels of carbon filtration that trap sediment, chemicals, and harmful impurities. Frigidaire filters are NSF certified, the gold standard in water filtration.”

Common questions

Can an EPTWFU01 replace an ULTRAWF?
Do not assume so. Frigidaire's own advice is to order the same filter type currently in the refrigerator, and it documents the two separately.
How often should the EPTWFU01 be changed?
Every six months, which is the interval Frigidaire publishes across its refrigerator water filters, with the status light prompting on most models.

The bottom line

The right part if the old one says EPTWFU01. Do not treat it as an upgrade to the ULTRAWF, because Frigidaire does not document it as one.
