ULTRAWF
Frigidaire PureSource Ultra water filter
Oohunt Deal Desk · Last checked 2026-11-02
If the cartridge you pulled out says ULTRAWF, this is the one to buy again. Frigidaire's own advice is to reorder the type already fitted rather than to match a model number, and the number printed on the old filter is the only identifier that cannot be wrong.
Which Frigidaire filter is yours
These are not interchangeable. Match the number on the cartridge you are replacing.

Compared with
The comparisons people actually search for this part, answered from the manufacturer’s own material.
ULTRAWFvsWF3CB
Different fittings, not different grades. The WF3CB is a push-in cartridge and the ULTRAWF twists in, so the one you removed answers the question on its own. Frigidaire publishes a separate install guide for each and tells owners to reorder the type already fitted, which is as close to an official answer as its material gets. Neither is an upgrade on the other.
What Frigidaire will and will not tell you
Frigidaire publishes a six-month interval, names the fitting, and provides a separate install guide for this cartridge. What it does not publish, on any page that loads for us, is a gallon rating.
That matters, because almost every retailer listing says six months or 200 gallons. We are not repeating a number the manufacturer does not state. The six months is Frigidaire's; the gallon figure belongs to whoever wrote the listing.
When to change it
Frigidaire's wording is that in general you should change your water filter every six months to ensure the highest possible water quality, and that on most models the Water Filter Status on your display will illuminate and prompt you.
One detail in that article is easy to miss and worth more than the interval itself: if the fridge has been unused for a while, during a move for example, Frigidaire recommends changing the filter before reinstalling it. The clock is not purely about how much water went through.
Why this is not the Ultra II
The names invite the assumption that the Ultra II supersedes the Ultra and drops into the same slot. Frigidaire gives each its own install guide, which is the clearest signal available that they are different parts rather than revisions of one.
Neither is a safe substitute for the other on a guess. Read the number off the old cartridge, or off the manual, before ordering.
Fit it, then flush it
Air gets trapped in the line when a new cartridge goes in. Frigidaire says this can result in two or three empty ice maker cycles, and that if the system is not flushed the first ice cubes may be discolored or have an odd flavor.
Its procedure is to hold a glass against the dispenser paddle until water comes through, which it says may take about one to two minutes, keep dispensing for several minutes to flush the plumbing, then discard that water and repeat a few more times.
So cloudy or odd-tasting water straight after a change is expected rather than a sign of a bad cartridge. Flush it properly before concluding anything.
What we can source
Every row names who says it. Anything the manufacturer does not publish is not listed, which is why this is shorter than a retailer’s.

What Frigidaire says about third-party filters
The manufacturer marketing its own part, not an independent test. Reported, not endorsed.
“Frigidaire Genuine filters offer 3 levels of carbon filtration that trap sediment, chemicals, and harmful impurities. Frigidaire filters are NSF certified, the gold standard in water filtration.”
Common questions
- Is ULTRAWF the same as EPTWFU01?
- Treat them as different parts. Frigidaire publishes a separate install guide for each and tells owners to order the same filter type already fitted, so the safe approach is to read the part number off the old cartridge.
- How often should the ULTRAWF be changed?
- Every six months. Frigidaire's wording is that in general you should change the filter every six months to ensure the highest possible water quality, and that on most models the Water Filter Status on the display will prompt you.
- Is the ULTRAWF rated for 200 gallons?
- Retailer listings say so, but no Frigidaire page we can reach states a gallon figure for it. We quote the six-month interval, which Frigidaire does publish, and leave the gallon number to the listings that assert it.
The bottom line
Buy the ULTRAWF only if the cartridge coming out says ULTRAWF. The six-month interval is Frigidaire's own, the gallon figure you will see elsewhere is not, and the Ultra II is a different part despite the name.
